As the Sun transitions into Virgo on August 22nd, we enter a season characterised by meticulous attention to detail, a desire for self-improvement, and a deep commitment to service. Often misunderstood in popular sun sign astrology, Virgo energy is more than just being overly organised, critical, or nit-picky. At its core, Virgo represents a profound yearning to make things better—not just for oneself, but for the world at large.

Virgo is a sign deeply invested in growth—both personal and collective. It possesses a critical eye, yes, but not for the sake of criticism alone. Virgo’s true intention lies in improvement, in refining the rough edges, and in elevating the mundane to something more meaningful.

This season invites us to embrace that energy, focusing on how we can better ourselves and our surroundings.

From an evolutionary astrology perspective, Virgo season is a time to address the unfinished business of our souls. It’s about refining our habits, routines, and mindsets to align more closely with our higher purpose. Virgo teaches us that growth comes not from grand gestures but from the small, consistent steps we take every day. This is a season of daily dedication, where the seemingly insignificant details of life become the building blocks of our evolution.

The Season ahead is not quite as intense as it has been, but we are in for a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces later in the month. As we move through this Virgo season, several significant astrological events shape the landscape, each offering its unique lesson and opportunity for growth and improvement.

We will all be pleased to know that Mercury turns direct on the 28th after having been retrograde in both Virgo and Leo. Mercury is Virgo’s ruling planet, and it finally stations direct in Leo, clearing the mental fog that’s been lingering. Our thinking and communication should become clearer,  and we are encouraged to speak our truth with confidence, infusing our words with the courage of Leo and the discernment of Virgo. This is a time to refine our plans, focusing on clarity and precision.

On the 29th Venus moves into her home sign of Libra where she seeks beauty, balance and harmony. This transit encourages us to bring more beauty and fairness into our interactions. It’s a reminder that the relationships we cultivate are also part of our service to the world. How can we make our connections more harmonious and more aligned with the mutual growth that Virgo desires?

September 1st sees our planet Uranus turning retrograde in Taurus. Do we need to reassess some impulsive actions or changes we have made?Uranus retrograde is a time to internalise our growth, examining where we need to break free from old patterns that no longer serve us. In the context of Virgo season, this energy supports our efforts to refine and perfect our approach to these areas.

And for one final time ( I promise), Pluto retrograde moves back into Capricorn on the 2nd of September, where it will stay until November 20th, when it moves back into Capricorn for good. On a global scale, this is a last hurrah for all those Capricorn structures, political hierarchies and power-mongering. Very interesting timing for world-stage politics, especially as the US election will happen during this period

On a personal level, Pluto here gives us another chance to work on the deep, structural changes in our lives. Capricorn energy aligns well with Virgo’s practical nature, emphasising the need for disciplined and methodical transformation. This is a time to revisit old ambitions, refine our long-term goals, and ensure they are in alignment with our soul’s evolution.

The New Moon in Virgo on the 3rd  offers a potent moment for setting intentions around health, service, and self-improvement. This is the perfect time to launch new routines, cleanse your space, and commit to the practices that support your well-being. The energy of this New Moon is about planting seeds of practicality and nurturing them with daily care.

Mars, the planet of action, moves out of chatty Gemini and into deep feeling Cancer on the 5th a sign known for its emotional depth and protective instincts. This transit suggests that our drive and energy may become more inward-focused, with an emphasis on nurturing and protecting what we value most.

In Virgo season, this can manifest as a desire to take care of ourselves and others, creating a safe and supportive environment for growth. On the 9th of September as Mercury re-enters Virgo, our thoughts and communication align even more closely with the Virgoan themes of precision and clarity. This is an ideal time for organising, planning, and attending to the details of our lives. It’s also a reminder to speak kindly to ourselves and others, using words as tools for healing and improvement.

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on September 18th brings a powerful culmination of the themes we’ve been working on during Virgo season. Pisces, the sign opposite Virgo, challenges us to balance practicality with spirituality, order with chaos, and service with compassion. This eclipse may reveal where we need to let go of illusions and embrace a more holistic approach to our well-being. There will be more about this during this time.

Virgo season is an excellent time to embark on a new health regimen or take stock of your physical and mental well-being. If you’ve been neglecting your health, now is the time to attend to those nagging issues. Whether it’s cleaning out your pantry, adopting a healthier diet, or committing to regular exercise, the small steps you take now will have a significant impact in the long run.

On a deeper level, Virgo season invites us to examine our daily habits and routines. Are they supporting your growth, or are they holding you back? This is a time to get organised, declutter your space, and create an environment that fosters your well-being. Virgo’s energy is about efficiency and effectiveness—make sure that every aspect of your life is aligned with your intentions.

One of Virgo’s highest expressions is the desire to be of service. During this season, consider how you can contribute to the well-being of others. Whether through acts of kindness, volunteer work, or simply being present for those who need support, serving others can be a profound way to connect with Virgo’s healing energy.

This Virgo season is a time of refinement, improvement, and service. It’s about attending to the small things that, over time, make a big difference  And remember, in the words of Virgo: perfection is not the goal—improvement is.

· The Astrology of late is big; there is so much going on, which I have commented on in other posts. For now, let's focus on the culmination of many of the current astrological themes coming into play by exploring this Full Moon in Aquarius, which is being intensified by a Grand Fixed Square and Uranus's unpredictable energy. The core themes are a call to consider where we might need to break free from outdated patterns, how well we are honouring our personal authenticity and even more so our collective responsibility. This is a bit of a buzzy shaking energy. This is not to say it is bad but there are some big themes of unpredictability during this Full Moon. The key thing will be staying open to change and considering how you are aligning your actions with the greater good for profound growth.

To help us navigate this Full Moon I have created a special edition Full Moon in Aquarius 2024 Work Book. The Workbook is available to download here

This workbook offers a detailed overview of the Full Moon, Questions for self-reflection, ritual ideas, affirmations, and journal prompts to help you align with this energy and timing for deeper self-understanding, growth, healing, and hope. There is also a separate section exclusively for those of you with the natal moon in Aquarius.

I will be taking a break and travelling to Greece and Italy where firstly I will be doing an Astrological Sacred Sites 2-week tour of Greece, with some very special people from the Australian Astrological community and then off to Lake Como in Italy for a conference featuring some of my all-time favourite international astrologers. Seriously, it cant get much better than that. So there will be fewer posts for a while.

As we approach the Full Moon in Aquarius, which occurs on August 20th, 2024, we are influenced by intense and transformative energies.

The Full Moon in Australia occurs with the Sun at 27 degrees and 15 minutes of Leo opposing the Moon at 27 degrees and 15 minutes of Aquarius, on the 20th  of August at 4.25 am. This is not only a time of culmination but also a period marked by tension, rebellion, and a call to action. The powerful alignment of this lunation forms a Grand Fixed Square, involving the Sun, Mercury, and Vesta in Leo, Uranus in Taurus, the Full Moon in Aquarius, and Pallas in Scorpio. The involvement of Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, in a tight square with this Full Moon, amplifies the intensity, promising sudden revelations, disruptions, and a potential for radical change.

At its essence, this Full Moon illuminates the ongoing challenge between the Leo Sun's need for self-expression, individuality, and recognition, and the Aquarius Moon's focus on community, collective ideals, and the greater good. This polarity asks us to balance our personal desires with the needs of the collective, urging us to honour our own truth while remaining open to the perspectives of others. This balance is more challenging under the influence of the Grand Fixed Square, which creates a dynamic push-and-pull energy, particularly in areas where we have become too rigid, resistant to change, or overly attached to old ways of doing things.

This Full Moon is potent energy for all the Fixed signs, and especially as each Fixed sign is being brought into the equation in some way via the Grand Fixed Square that is occurring. Pay particular attention to where you may have a fixed sign of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius at around 27 degrees to see what areas of your life will be most illuminated.

Grand Fixed Squares presents a powerful yet demanding energy that requires patience, self-awareness, and a willingness to evolve to harness its full potential. Thus during this Full Moon we can use this energy to take some time to explore the themes The Grand Fixed Square during this Full Moon involves four key points:

Sun, Mercury, and Vesta in Leo: The Sun in Leo is about shining brightly, being seen, and expressing one's individuality. Mercury, retrograde in Leo, aligns with the Sun, bringing introspection, review, and the need to revisit past communications or ideas. Vesta, the asteroid of devotion and sacred focus, adds a layer of spiritual commitment, asking us to consider what we are truly dedicated to. However, the square to Uranus in Taurus suggests that our efforts to express ourselves or remain devoted to certain ideals may be disrupted by unexpected events or sudden shifts in our values or resources.

Uranus in Taurus: As the ruler of Aquarius, Uranus is the planet of sudden change, rebellion, and innovation. In Taurus, it challenges the status quo, urging us to break free from outdated structures, especially in areas related to security, finances, and our connection to the Earth. The square to the Sun, Mercury, and Vesta in Leo suggests a clash between our need for stability and the demand for radical change. This tension can manifest in both personal and collective disruptions, pushing us to reassess what truly matters.

The Moon in Aquarius highlights our emotional connection to the collective, to humanitarian causes, and to the larger vision of the future. However, the square to Uranus in Taurus may stir feelings of restlessness, unpredictability, and a desire to break free from emotional patterns or group dynamics that no longer serve us.

There are certainly challenging themes that might arise during this Full Moon and basically throughout much of the middle of August, however,  within these challenges lie great opportunities for growth and liberation. This Full Moon is a call to break free from the old ways of doing things, outdated beliefs, unhealthy relationships, or rigid structures in our lives; this is a time to release what is holding us back and to step into a new way of being. The involvement of Pallas in Scorpio suggests that by facing our fears and embracing transformation, we can gain new insights and develop strategies to navigate these intense energies effectively. Pallas is unafraid to confront the shadow, to dig deep into the psyche, and to use crises as opportunities for growth. The square to the Full Moon in Aquarius suggests that our emotional responses may require a strategic approach, one that honours both the need for transformation and the need for collective harmony.

The asteroid Vesta also plays a crucial role in this Full Moon, adding depth and nuance to the energies at play. Vesta represents our sacred devotion and where we focus our energy with a sense of purpose and commitment. In Leo, Vesta asks us to dedicate ourselves to our creative expression, our personal passions, and what we hold dear. However, the square to Uranus challenges us to reconsider where our true devotion lies.

This Full Moon offers a chance to realign our focus with what truly matters, even if it means breaking free from past commitments or identities.

To navigate the intense energies of this Full Moon, it is essential to remain flexible, open-minded, and willing to embrace change. Aquarius energy is all about the people with whom we share common interests, our tribe, our community. We can use this Full Moon to consider the groups, communities, and causes we are part of. Are they serving our authentic self? This Full Moon offers an opportunity to find like-minded individuals who share our values and vision for the future. However, remember to balance this with the broader needs of the collective. It's important not to become so focused on your own tribe that you close yourself off to the rest of the world.

The Leo-Aquarius polarity asks us to honour our individuality while also respecting the needs of others. Use this Full Moon to express your true self, but do so in a way that contributes to the greater good. This balance between self and others is key to navigating the challenges of this lunation.

And, given the intense and potentially disruptive energies at play, this is a powerful time to meditate on global healing. Send love and light to the world, focusing on areas where there is conflict, suffering, or injustice. By aligning your intentions with the greater good, you can help to channel these energies in a positive direction.

As we navigate this intense Full Moon in Aquarius, it's important to remain grounded and cantered. The energies at play are powerful and transformative, offering both challenges and opportunities for growth.

This Full Moon may stir deep emotions and bring unexpected changes, but it also offers a chance to realign with our true purpose and to contribute to the collective evolution. As we gather our tribes and face the challenges ahead, let us do so with an open heart, a clear mind, and a commitment to creating a better future for all.

Happy New Moon in Leo. As I have been watching the Olympics during this Leo Season, I am reminded of the unity of humanity when we can work together to celebrate cultural diversity, artistic and creative expression, and the incredible achievements of others. This is a Leo theme that we need to constantly remind ourselves of.

As someone with the natal moon in Leo, I am very much looking forward to this one, which you will all be pleased to know is a rather harmonious and energetic new moon, ideal for intention setting, but get to it before Mercury turns retrograde just a day after this New Moon. This lunation is about celebrating the heart and the self and allowing ourselves to find ways in which we can shine brighter in any area of our lives we would choose to do so. Leo is much more than “look at me” energy ( however I intend to go shopping for some new outfits around this time) and is more about how we show up from our heart centre to be who we really are, how we celebrate what we feel in our heart, how we express our hearts desires and embrace true joy, connect with our inner child and let ourselves shine. So get to setting some intentions around how you wish to really shine in life.

The New Moon occurs in Australia on August the 4th at 9.13 pm on the east coast and falls at 12 degrees Leo. Look to see where 12 degrees of Leo falls in your chart to see which area of life will be energised by this placement. We all have Leo somewhere and the house Leo rules or is in is where you need to pay attention to shinning in life. This New Moon is a fairly harmonious energy, helped allow by a harmonious aspect from Mars and Jupiter who are currently joining forced in Gemini and the asteroid Vesta.

As with every new moon, it is a time to set our intentions or what we would like to manifest and bring into our lives. The new moon meets the Sun in Leo, enhancing and prompting us to set goals around some of the Leo principles.

Leo is ruled by the sun, the heart of our universe, and therefore rules our hearts astrologically. Leo's energy is often misrepresented as that egoic, 'look at me' energy and indeed, sometimes it is expressed this way. But at its higher manifestation, Leo is about giving and receiving and expressing from the heart. So, on this new moon, we can ask ourselves how our heart is going? Are we being true to our heart's desires and expressing those desires honestly and authentically?

Leo energy is naturally warm, generous of spirit, childlike, playful, and creative. Use this time for setting an intention around how you give love to yourself and how you'd like to give and receive love to others. Spend some time treating yourself like you would like to be treated by others. This new moon is an excellent time to set some intentions around bolstering your confidence if you lack confidence. One of the best ways to do this is to literally write some affirmations, place them on your mirror, and speak them out loud to yourself.

This method was taught via the great late Louise Hay. It feels strange when you first start doing this, but it works. Here is a classic from Louise; you can use this one or write your own, but this represents the energy of this Leo new moon perfectly: “I feel my heart opening, and I know that there is room in there for me….I treat myself with unconditional love.”

Adding to the fiery and creative energy of this Leo new moon is a harmonious aspect to Mars and Jupiter, who are meeting up together in Gemini. Mars, the planet of action and drive, combined with Jupiter, the planet of expansion and abundance, brings a dynamic and optimistic energy to our new moon intentions. This aspect encourages us to think big and take bold steps towards our goals. It’s a time to tap into our enthusiasm and courage, to pursue what truly lights us up with a sense of adventure and curiosity.

Conjunct this new moon is Vesta, the asteroid representing the sacred flame and devotion. Vesta's presence in Leo calls us to dedicate ourselves to our passions with a sense of purity and commitment. It asks us to honour our inner light, to nurture it, and to allow it to shine brightly. This is a time to reconnect with what truly matters to us, to find that spark within, and to commit to our personal growth and creative expression.

Self-love and self-expression are big Leo themes. We can use this New moon to set some intentions around how we would like to show more love to ourselves and how we may be able to express our true selves more authentically. Leo is also all about confidence, of stepping onto the stage of life and allowing ourselves to shine. It’s a great time to think about how we might be able to boost our confidence.

One of the core essences of Leo is that of pure joy, the kind of joy we experience when we allow ourselves to connect with our inner child and play. This isa wonderful time to unashamedly allow ourselves to have fun. So we can think about how we can incorporate more playfulness, fun and creativity into our lives.

Like all the Fire signs, Leo energy is passionate about those things that light them up. What are your true passions, and are you paying them enough attention? How can you devote more time and energy to those things that really light you up?

Leo loves on a big scale, and expressing this love in a generous, open-hearted way is one of Leo's greatest traits. A Leo whose heart is cold, however, is not a positive sight. It is super important to ignite the heart and equally be active in relationships that honour the heart. Take this time to think about what changes, if any, you need to make to ensure you are receiving and giving love authentically and passionately.

Leo's fire energy is expressive and creative and loves to move. This is a wonderful time to allow yourself to dance like no one is watching. Put on some music during this new moon and dance around your lounge room. Grab that hairbrush microphone, sing loudly, and allow yourself to play and have some fun. If this is not your scene, spending some time on creative pursuits or planning a future creative project is also an excellent idea.

The intentions and changes we seek to make can culminate as we move toward the full moon in Aquarius, which occurs on the 20th. This will be quite a powerful full moon, so set your intentions wisely to see them culminate during this time.

As we embrace this new moon in Leo, with the support of Mars, Jupiter, and Vesta, let us commit to living from our hearts, expressing our true selves, and nurturing our inner light. Let this be a time of joyful creation, bold action, and deep devotion to what truly matters to us.
