Given we are in Aquarius season, I thought it a good idea to write about my musings on Aquarius energy.

Whether it be your sun sign, moon sign or rising sign, knowing more about the drivers of this air sign may help you understand the Aquarius in your chart or those of your loved ones.

The astrological glyph for Aquarius looks like electrical currents traversing through the ether,( air) sending electric energy to where it is needed. This symbol in its own right tells us much about the sign of Aquarius.

Aquarius is the last of the air signs in the zodiac and focuses less on the individual needs and more on the collective. With an extreme emphasis on socialisation, humanitarian drivers, working for the collective good, bringing tolerance and acceptance to the world and shaking up the status quo for the emergence of the new way.

This energy manifests within the individual with an Aquarius sun, moon or rising sign in various ways.

Aquarius is undoubtedly one of the most 'interesting' of all the signs as they have a penchant for the quirky, unusual, non-traditional. These people consciously or unconsciously prefer to work against the status quo and stir up the pot.

They are fundamentally looking out for the underdog, the disenfranchised and work to change the 'system' for the betterment of all of humanity.

They are the rebels, the people who will not settle for things as they have always been. Even if working in a very conservative environment, the Aquarian will ask the question 'why do we do it this way?' and come up with original ideas, flashes of insights to motivate forward moving change.

The Aquarian mind is quite brilliant, fast, astute and able to make connections to ideas. They initiate original thoughts, and set the seeds for change in society, business practice, or traditional family structures.

When young, Aquarians may well have felt very different from their peer group, like they don't quite fit in, but when older it becomes essential to not be like everyone else and this gives them their sense of pride and purpose. As they grow as a person, the Aquarian is likely to go out of their way to be different and unconventional.

Settling for societies' norms' does not sit well with Aquarian energy. Their nature needs freedom, freedom to express, freedom to move and space to change. Aquarians can not stay in one place for too long, they, in fact, thrive on change and will often be seen instigating change just for change's sake. This is because they can be easily bored and need constant stimulation. However, over stimulation is not good for anyone, and one of Aquarius s most significant challenges is learning to 'be' to relax and learn to go with the flow. Easier said than done, however.

These guys are known to stir things up just for the sake of it, and will often play out the part of the rebel or protagonist in a group situation primarily to feed their need to challenge the status quo and encourage others to do the same.

Aquarius rules technology, science, inventions, all tools that help the collective discover new and exciting ways of moving forward.

The Aquarian appeal is finding new ways to access information that can motivate change and hopefully, a better world. As a fixed air sign, they are often found buried in the back end of a new software system, teaching others on the latest technology applications or inventing the next 'gadget' that can change the world. They have incredibly inventive ideas and will be the first to tell you of a new and better way to do something.

Aquarians collect people, and pride themselves on having a diverse, often eclectic and unusual group of friends or' tribes' to which they feel incredibly connected. They are at their best when they think they are with like-minded people' and often prefer the company of the collective, the group, their friends than that of one on one close and intimate relationships.

Often Aquarian can appear aloof, disconnected and not overly attached; this is primarily due to the fact that they prefer to exist in their head more than in the feeling or emotional nature.

They often feel more comfortable within groups and friends than intimate relationships that may place restrictions on them. They need freedom, which is never more evident than when in intimate relationships. If they can find someone who supports their need for freedom and independence, they are very capable of close relationships. Still, the relationship may be more like 'best friends' than the intensity of some other relationships. When they do, connect to their hearts and marry their head and heart in a passion project, they can become incredibly powerful.

The Sun will move from earthy Capricorn in the air sign of Aquarius on January 20 where it meets heavyweights Saturn and Pluto in Aquarius and jovial opportunistic Jupiter in Aquarius.

These planets together sometimes feel like you are driving a sports car but with the handbrake on. You may be wanting to rush full steam ahead, but caution is called for. Where Jupiter expands, Saturn contracts. So what does that mean for the coming month?

In Astro world, there is much discussion about Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius throughout 2021. Whilst the Sun is also in Aquarius; it is time to set the scene for new ideas, new insights and possibly some revolutionary vibes- the throwing out of the old guard to welcome in the new.

However, Saturn insists we get real about this and offers us the need to be cautious, make sure we set up the structures for change properly rather than rush forward for change just for change sake. Saturn asks us to build the foundations of the change we want to see, get out ducks in a row, get our facts straight first.

Energetically the Sun is conjunct Pluto ( until January 23rd) Saturn ( until February 3rd) and Jupiter ( until February 9th) and will be making a challenging square aspect to Mars in Taurus until (February 15th) and Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius in Taurus ( Until February 2nd). There is no doubt this is a volatile combination and not your usual traversing of the Sun through the sign of Aquarius.

We need to be careful this month that we don't rush full steam ahead with this airy intellect and revolutionary energy, and that we exercise some caution before leaping. The collective power may feel pushy and assertive and in great need for transformation, but this may also manifest as aggressive energy. Obsessions and intensity will run high, especially around the period of the inauguration. I suspect the polarisation we see in the world will continue to divide.

On a personal level getting into political debates with those whose views are different from your own could become rather explosive. People will feel even more compelled to exercise their freedom of expression and voice their ideas loudly, especially around the full moon in Leo in January 28th. Exercise some caution and tolerance. Tolerance is very much an Aquarian energy we should be aspiring to however, I feel that the 'old guard' will be holding on for dear life, determined not to die. The scene will be ripe for taking risks that may not go according to plan.

The full moon on January 28th will be in fiery Leo, making an opposition to the Sun, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn in Aquarius. The full moon in a fire sign may feel like the pot is still being stirred and people may feel more compelled to express their ideas and opinions loudly and dramatically.

At the end of the month, things may die down as Mercury goes retrograde, turning our voices inward rather than exploding in an outward fashion. This will be a great time to reflect on what happens this month and think about what and how we communicate in the world.

New Moon in Capricorn

The first new moon of the year the beginning of a new Luna month offers us a wonderful opportunity to put our plans into action.

All those New Year's resolutions can be activated now and for the signs of Capricorn, Libra and Aries it makes its mark in more profound ways by opening up new opportunities.

Capricorn is one of the most forthright, practical and steadfast signs of the zodiac, hardworking, determined, strong and ambitious.

Tapping into this lunar energy offers us an opportunity to strategise, especially for business or practical purposes, and plant the seed for our ambitions in 2021.

The new moon is in aspect to Pluto which is the planet of transformation. This adds a level of intensity to this new moon and the ability to tune in on very deep psychological levels. The past year may have brought us many challenges and hopefully insights into moving toward positive change within ourselves and for humanity. If therefore there are strategies and goals you want to enact that evolve around changing some of your psychological habits, this is the time to get going.

Use the new moon energies to get organised, gain focus and put practical plans into action for the year ahead.
