Cancer Full Moon- Leading With the Heart

The First Full Moon of the Year: Leading with the heart

The first full moon of the year is always one of my favourites. This is when the Moon returns to her home sign of Cancer, where the themes of nurturing—especially self-nurturing—are profoundly resonant. With Mars in Cancer retrograde sitting alongside the Moon, this full moon invites us into a beautiful space of internal reflection and emotional processing.

In my own reflection, I’ve made a significant decision this year: I will no longer be creating my Full Moon Workbooks. While they’ve been a labour of love, the amount of work involved, combined with my increasingly busy astrology practice, has made it clear that it’s time to shift my focus.

I’m thrilled to be devoting more energy to some exciting new offerings within my practice: Astro Branding and Author Mentoring—with astrology as the guiding backdrop. You can learn more about these services on my website www.aspectastrology.com

Instead of the Full Moon Workbook, I’ll be periodically releasing other resources to help navigate some of the major astrological shifts this year. Stay tuned—these are designed to guide and support you through transformative times.

As we approach this Cancer Full Moon, I encourage you to take a moment to pause, nurture yourself, and reflect. How will you honour this energy? What will you do to create space for your own self-care and emotional renewal?

The first full moon of 2025 graces us in the emotionally resonant sign of Cancer, illuminating the night sky on January 14h at 9.27am at 23 degrees. So look to see where Cancer at 23 degrees falls in your chart to see what area of  life will be illuminated now.

This Full Moon invites us to reconnect with our inner world and nurture ourselves deeply. Its energy encourages reflection, emotional clarity, and healing, particularly as the Moon conjuncts Mars retrograde in Cancer, sextiles Uranus in Taurus, and forms harmonious trines with Neptune and the newly arrived North Node in Pisces. In a year when so many planets change into Air and Fire signs, this is a special watery moment for reflection and renewal.

Adding to the depth, Saturn, the ruler of the Sun currently in Capricorn, is in Pisces alongside Venus in Pisces and places emphasis on the balance between responsibility and emotional fulfillment. Together, these alignments create a cosmic tapestry that calls us to align our outer ambitions with the sanctity of our inner lives.

Cancer, ruled by the Moon, embodies unconditional love, emotional intuition, and the archetype of nurturing. Its counterpart, Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, prioritises achievement, discipline, and responsibility. This full moon emphasises the Cancer-Capricorn axis, challenging us to reconcile our need for emotional security and nurturing with the demands of our external obligations.

With the Sun in Capricorn urging us to plan and prioritise, the Cancer Moon reminds us not to neglect our hearts in favour of external duties. This lunar phase invites us to reflect on the balance between our inner and outer worlds. Are we allowing our emotions the space they need, or are they buried beneath a mountain of tasks and expectations?

The Moon’s conjunction with Mars retrograde in Cancer can stir up deep, unresolved emotions. Mars, the planet of action, in retrograde asks us to reflect rather than react, giving us the opportunity to process past emotional wounds.

The sextile to Uranus in Taurus offers us an opportunity for innovation, shaking us from stagnation and offering intuitive insights into how we can change old patterns. This aspect encourages us to experiment with new ways of nurturing ourselves and managing emotional challenges, especially those tied to family and home.

The Moon’s trine with Neptune and the newly arrived North Node in Pisces adds a layer of spiritual healing and soul alignment. This aspect enhances our ability to tap into compassion, creativity, and the wisdom of the heart. It’s a potent time for forgiving others and ourselves, especially in matters related to family and ancestral ties.

Pisces energy, emphasised by Saturn’s conjunction with Venus, asks us to consider the deeper, soulful connections that inform our relationships. Venus in Pisces imbues this full moon with a sense of divine love and beauty, urging us to create spaces—both internal and external—that feel sacred and aligned with our true essence.

This full moon is a time to embrace the nurturing qualities of Cancer. Sit with your emotions, reflect on the past, and allow yourself to feel deeply. Unresolved family dynamics, particularly those tied to maternal or paternal archetypes, may rise to the surface for healing.

During this full moon we are invited to sit with the following questions:

How are we nurturing ourself and others?

Are there emotional wounds we need to release?

Does my home support our need for sanctuary and rejuvenation?

Writing down these reflections and releasing them through water—a ritual aligned with Cancer’s element—can be profoundly cathartic. Whether you burn the paper and release the ashes into a stream or submerge it in water, let the act symbolise the cleansing and renewal of your emotional state.

Cancer rules the home, urging us to consider how our physical and emotional environments support our well-being. Decluttering, rearranging furniture, or creating a small sacred space for meditation and reflection can rejuvenate the energy of your home. With Uranus’s influence we can tap into inspiration for creative ways to transform our space into a sanctuary.

With Neptune and the North Node in Pisces, this is a perfect time for meditation and introspection. Quiet moments can yield profound insights about family dynamics, self-nurturing practices, or releasing old wounds. We can use this time to visualise the moon’s light bathing us in healing energy, illuminating the path forward with compassion and clarity.

This Cancer full moon is a sacred reminder to check in with our hearts, nurture our emotional selves, and release anything that no longer serves us. As we honour our inner lives, we find the strength to meet our outer responsibilities with greater resilience and authenticity.

Under the nurturing light of the Moon, allow yourself to feel, heal, and grow. This moment is not only about releasing the past but also about embracing the changes that guide us toward a more aligned, heart-centered life for the year ahead.

Happy Cancer Full Moon

Love, Dijana x
